In 2022, we carried out the installation of two 50-metre radial stacker cranes at the Zierbena Adosado quay in Santurce, Vizcaya. This project reinforces our commitment to innovation and optimisation of logistics processes in the port sector.

An efficient system for stacking materials

Radial stackers play a fundamental role in the management of bulk materials, such as limestone sand. Their main function is to stack the material evenly, both in height and width, which facilitates efficient storage and access to the product. This process is done by a slow turning motion, where the stacker moves from side to side, forming a curve as the material flows.

In this case, the radial stacker system is perfectly integrated with a chain feeder, which receives the material directly from the trucks. The conveyor belt, with a width of 2,200 mm, facilitates the transition of the material to the stacker, ensuring a continuous and uninterrupted distribution. This system not only ensures faster and more efficient loading, but also less material handling during the process, which improves productivity and reduces the risk of damage.

 

Technical specifications of the project

Each radial stacker installed is 50 metres long, with an inspection and maintenance walkway on both sides to facilitate operational tasks. In addition, each unit has a production capacity of 600 tonnes per hour, with a density of 1.6 T/m3, which allows up to 60,000 tonnes of material to be stored between the two stackers. Stacking is carried out at a height of 16 metres, thus optimising the available space and improving the port's storage capacity.

A key aspect of this system is the integrated misting system, which minimises environmental impact by reducing dust emission during operations. This system not only improves safety in the work area, but also contributes to maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment, in compliance with current environmental regulations.
